The Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (KTET) is a state-level examination conducted by the Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan for recruiting eligible candidates for teaching positions in schools across Kerala. The KTET is designed to assess the teaching capabilities and subject knowledge of candidates in various categories, ensuring that teachers have the necessary skills and knowledge to teach effectively in schools.KTET is divided into four categories, each corresponding to different levels of teaching. KTET Category 3 English is focused on evaluating the English language proficiency of candidates who want to teach English at the upper primary school level (Classes 6 to 8). This category is intended for teachers who will be responsible for teaching English to young learners, and it tests a candidate’s ability to effectively communicate and teach the subject in a classroom setting. The exam is aimed at assessing the candidate's command over the English language, both in terms of pedagogical skills and subject knowledge. The test evaluates how well the candidate can teach English grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, and the ability to engage students with age-appropriate content.
To apply for KTET Category III – English, candidates must fulfill the following:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in English Language and Literature or a related subject with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognized university.(For SC/ST and differently abled candidates, the minimum required marks are 40%.)

Language Proficiency:
The KTET Category 3 exam tests both theoretical knowledge and practical application of English teaching skills. Candidates need to have a strong grasp of English grammar, vocabulary, and usage, as well as the ability to teach these skills to young learners in an engaging manner.
Pedagogical Skills:
Beyond just language proficiency, Category 3 also evaluates the candidate’s pedagogical approach to teaching English. This includes knowledge of lesson planning, teaching methods, and student engagement. The focus is on understanding how to teach English effectively to young learners, incorporating a range of teaching aids, resources, and classroom activities that can enhance language acquisition.
Child-Centered Approach:
As the test evaluates the skills of teachers working with children, a child-centered approach is emphasized. Candidates need to understand how to create a positive and supportive classroom environment for children of various learning abilities.
