The SSC CGL cut off changes every year based on several important factors such as the number of vacancies, difficulty level of the examination, total number of candidates appearing for the exam, category of the candidate, and normalization of marks. In recent years, the General category cut off for most SSC CGL Tier 1 posts has usually remained between 140 and 155 marks. Candidates aiming for top posts like Income Tax Inspector, CBI Sub-Inspector, Assistant Section Officer, and Examiner should try to score much higher than the expected cut off to improve their chances of final selection.
Although the official SSC CGL 2026 cut off will be announced only after the examination, previous year trends indicate that the competition is expected to remain high this year as well. Based on earlier examinations, a safe target score for Tier 1 may be around 150+ marks for General category candidates, 145+ for OBC and EWS candidates, 125+ for SC candidates, and 115+ for ST candidates. These scores are only expected ranges and may change depending on the number of vacancies and the overall difficulty level of the exam.
SSC CGL is one of the most competitive graduate-level government examinations in India. Candidates should not prepare based only on the minimum cut off. Scoring well above the previous year cut off increases the chances of qualifying for Tier 2 and securing a better post in the final selection process.
