IP Address (Internet Protocol Address)
IP addresses are used to:
1. Identify devices on a network
2. Facilitate communication between devices
3. Route data packets across the Internet
Types of IP Addresses:
1. IPv4 (32-bit): xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (e.g., 192.168.1.1)
2. IPv6 (128-bit): xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334)
Other unique identifiers:
1. MAC Address (Media Access Control Address): a unique hardware address assigned to network interface controllers (NICs)
2. Hostname: a human-readable name assigned to a device or domain
