D400

Answer:

B. 500

Read Explanation:

Given:

A student has to obtain 35% of the total marks to pass. He got 135 marks and failed by 40 marks.

Formula Used:

Pass marks = Marks received + Marks by which he/she fails

Calculation:

Let the maximum marks be 'x'

⇒ pass marks = 135 + 40 = 175

also, pass marks = 35% of the total marks

175=35100×X175=\frac{35}{100}\times{X}

⇒  x = 500

∴ Required maximum marks = 500
