The first regent of Travancore was Rani Gauri Lakshmi Bayi.

Reign: 1810 to 1815.
When the king of Travancore, Balarama Varma, passed away, the Rani took over the rule because the next heir was not yet of age.
She was also the first woman to rule Travancore directly.
The main achievements of her time were the abolition of the slave trade (1812), the establishment of courts, and the introduction of the first form of the secretariat system.
Colonel Munro was the main advisor (Diwan) of her time.
