Harappan civilization

• Flourished along the River Indus and its tributaries- Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and Beas.

• Excavation by Sir John Marshall (director of the Archaeological Survey of India) in 1921 revealed about this great civilization.

• The first excavation was conducted in Harappa in the present Pakistan by Daya Ram Sahni.

• Since the first evidence for the Indus valley civilization was obtained from Harappa, it is also known as the Harappan civilization.
