The Rocker Mechanism is the heart of the typewriter's movement. It controls the "step-by-step" movement of the carriage every time a key is pressed.
Loose Dog and Rigid Dog: These are two small pawls (metal teeth) attached to the rocker. They engage with the teeth of the escapement wheel. When you press a key, the rocker tilts, causing the dogs to release and catch the wheel, allowing the carriage to move exactly one space.
Escapement Wheel and Pinion Wheel: The Escapement Wheel is the toothed wheel that works with the dogs to regulate movement. The Pinion Wheel is a small gear that connects the carriage rack to the escapement wheel.
Why (iii) is incorrect: While the Main Spring provides the power to pull the carriage, it is not a part of the Rocker Mechanism itself. It is a separate assembly connected to the carriage by a drawband.
