The Tapti (also called Tapi) is one of the major rivers of peninsular India.
It flows westward and is one of only three major rivers in peninsular India that flow from east to west (the others being the Narmada and Mahi rivers).
The Tapti originates from Multai in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, in the Satpura Range.
It's approximately 724 km (450 miles) long
It flows through the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat
It empties into the Arabian Sea (Gulf of Khambhat) near Surat in Gujarat
Major tributaries include the Purna, Girna, Panzara, and Waghur rivers
It's considered one of the most important rivers in central India
