The All-India Rural Credit Review Committee (AIRCRC) was a committee established by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1966 to review the agricultural credit system:
Purpose: To identify bottlenecks and take remedial measures
Chair: B. Venkatappaiah
Recommendations:
Set up Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to supplement commercial banks
Establish the Rural Electrification Corporation to finance rural electrification schemes
Establish Small Farmers Development Agencies (SFDA) and Marginal Farmers and Agricultural Labourers (MFAL) to identify problems of small and marginal farmers
Findings: The committee emphasized that co-operatives should be developed, but that other institutions should coexist alongside them in healthy competition
