The Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP)
- IGMDP was conceptualized by renowned scientist and former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
- It aimed to achieve self-sufficiency in the field of missile technology and addressed the need for the development of various missile systems for India's defense forces.
- Approved by the Indian government on July 26, 1983, the IGMDP brought together the country's scientific community, academic institutions, R&D laboratories, industries, and the three defense services to shape indigenous strategic missile systems.
The missiles developed under the IGMDP are as follows:
- Short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile – Prithvi
- Intermediate-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile – Agni
