The Malabar Rebellion (Mappila Lahala) was an armed uprising in 1921 against the British authority in Malabar. Variyam Kunnath Kunjahammad Haji, Ali Musaliyar and Seethikkoya Thangal were the famous leaders of the revolt.
61 out of 90 prisoners carried in a closed railway goods wagon from Tirur to Coimbathore died of suffocation at Pothannur. Wagon Tragedy was on 1921 November 10. The Knapp Commission was appointed by the Madras Government to enquire the Wagon Tragedy. Wagon Tragedy Memorial is situated at Tirur in Malappuram District
