George Washington said, "Poor dog, it will die if it is not taken out of the pit." The man just nodded and looked on. Washington got closer to the pit and pulled the dog out of the mud. He took out his handkerchief and rubbed the mud off the dog's body. His clothes had become very dirty. The man realised his mistake and praised Washington for his deed. Washington replied, "I was pained to see the dog suffer. I took out the dog only to relieve myself on the pain and anguish."
