The Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) was a major employment generation program launched in India.
Primary Objective: To provide employment opportunities and thereby enhance food security and improve the nutritional status of the rural poor.
The scheme aimed to achieve this by creating durable community assets and strengthening rural infrastructure.
It was particularly focused on improving the living standards in rural areas, especially for vulnerable sections of society.
Implementation: The SGRY was implemented through Gram Panchayats, Block Panchayats, and Zila Panchayats.
Integration: It subsumed two earlier schemes: the Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana (JGSY) and the Employment Assurance Scheme (EAS).
Funding: The cost of the scheme was shared between the Central Government and the State Governments.
Nutritional Aspect: A portion of the wages under SGRY was paid in kind (food grains), directly contributing to food security and better nutrition.
