What is the narrator's justification for not developing an intimacy with appoоppап?

It was during winter that appooppan visited us. I was not particularly fond of him and so, was not excited about his visit, as I had not had any opportunity to interact with him in my childhood days. I had dismissed him to be an old villager who knew nothing about modern times. He was my maternal grandfather. Amma used to tell me that he was a great scholar, who worked as a village officer. But my arrogance and ego did not let me acknowledge him. My attitude towards him changed completely when there was a get-together. One of our family friends who was a senior scientist struck a conversation with appooppan and was amazed at the way he was updated on latest developments in science and technology. I was sitting next to them, and was surprised myself. Later that day, out of remorse, I approached appooppan. He interacted with me as if nothing happened.

AAppooppan was inconsiderate.

BАppоoppan was arrogant.

CThe narrator was shy.

DThe narrator considered appooppan to be an ordinary villager.

Answer:

D. The narrator considered appooppan to be an ordinary villager.

Read Explanation:

The narrator explicitly says:

"I had dismissed him to be an old villager who knew nothing about modern times."

This shows that the narrator’s lack of intimacy with Appooppan stemmed from their assumption and prejudice that Appooppan was just an outdated villager, not worth engaging with.
