- Amer, formerly known as Dhundar, was ruled by the Kachhwaha dynasty from the 11th to the 16th century, until the capital was shifted to Jaipur.
- Raja Man Singh constructed the fort in 1592 AD, and later, Raja Jai Singh I expanded and renovated it.
- While many similar ancient structures have been destroyed or replaced over time, this fort has withstood the test of time and numerous invasions.
- The fort is divided into four distinct sections, each with its own entrance.
- The main entry is through the 'Suraj Pol' or Sun Gate, which leads into the central courtyard.
- This east-facing gate serves as the primary entrance to the palace, and its alignment with the rising sun is the origin of its name.
- The 'Jaleb Chowk' is one of the four courtyards of the Amer Palace. The 'Sila Devi' Temple is located right at the entrance to the palace grounds.
