UNESCO's Intangible World Heritage in India
UNESCO defines "intangible" as "expressions that have:
Been passed down through generations
Evolved in response to their environments
Contributed to a sense of identity and continuity.
According to an official UNESCO document, ‘intangible cultural heritage’ encompasses “oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices related to nature and the universe, as well as the skills required to produce traditional crafts.”
The UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was established in 2008.
UNESCO created lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage to promote better protection of significant cultural traditions and raise aware.
