Folk Dances of Rajasthan
Rajasthan's vibrant folk music and dances beautifully reflect its ancient customs and traditions.
Among them, Ghoomar is the most renowned folk dance, both within the state and across the country.
Originating from the Bhil tribe, it was later embraced by the royal families and is traditionally performed by women during festive occasions.
The Bhavai dance is performed by women from the Jat, Meena, Bhil, Kalbelia, and Kumhar communities, accompanied by male performers who sing and play traditional instruments.
The Chari dance, symbolizing joy and the tradition of collecting water in pots (chari), is performed by women from the Saini community of Ajmer and the Gujjar community of Kishangarh.
The Kalbeliya dance, performed by women of the Kalbelia tribe to the music played by male members, has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
