Kerala was among the early states to recognize the importance of IT, introducing its first official IT Policy in 1998. A notable e-Governance initiative is the 'Karshika Vivara Sanketham' portal (www.krishi.info), developed by the Kerala State Agriculture Department. This comprehensive, single-window system offers farmers integrated information on various agricultural aspects, including crop management, organic farming, soil health, and market information, all provided in the local language, Malayalam, to ensure accessibility. Furthermore, the portal is supported by mobile applications and a call center. In the realm of communication technology, vconsol, India's official video call application, was developed by Techgentsia Software Technologies Private Limited, headquartered in Cherthala Infopark. The company, founded in 2009, gained recognition by winning the Video Conferencing Innovation Challenge organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for its indigenous video conferencing software.
