Tabletop Exercises are a form of discussion-based drill where participants gather in a low-stress environment (typically around a table) to talk through a hypothetical disaster scenario. The challenge lies in:
Theoretical Problem-Solving: Participants don't physically act out the response but discuss what they would do.
Applying Experience and Knowledge: They draw upon their professional expertise, training, and understanding of existing plans and procedures.
Working within SOPs: The goal is to see if current Standard Operating Procedures are clear, effective, and sufficient for the scenario, and how different agencies would coordinate using these established guidelines.
This allows for the identification of gaps in plans, clarification of roles, and improvement of communication and decision-making without the resource intensity of a full-scale exercise.
