Indian road network of 41 lakh km (approx) is the second largest in the world and consists of National Highways, State Highways, major/other district roads and village/ rural roads.

The National Highways Development Project (NHDP) is the largest highway project ever undertaken in the country. The NHDP is being implemented mainly by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Phases I to VII.
