The Theosophical Society was founded in the year 1875 in New York City by Russian noblewoman Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and American Colonel Henry Steel Alcott, along with attorney William Quan Judge and some other individuals.
In 1879, the principal founders, Madam H.P. Blavatsky and Col. Alcott moved to India where the Society spread rapidly.
In 1882, they established the Society’s International Headquarter in Adyar, a suburb of Madras (currently Chennai).
Brahmo Samaj was founded by Raja Ram Mohan Roy in 1828 and Ramkrishna Mission was founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1897.
