Predetermined motion time study (PMTS) is a work measurement technique that uses established times for basic human motions to determine the time required for a job at a defined level of performance. It involves selecting workers, recording their job operations on film, analyzing the data, and determining the time required for a new job by breaking it into basic movements and adding up the time values. PMTS eliminates inaccuracies associated with stop watch time study, superior for short cycle, highly repetitive operations, and reduces the cost of finding a standard time. However, it categories of motions have been covered while collecting PMTS data.
