What made Naresh the butt of ridicule among his friends?

Questions 91 - 95: Read the passage given and answer the questions that follow. Naresh was usually very sympathetic - sometimes 'a bit too kind', one might say. He would buy parcels of food for beggars on the road, give an extra ten rupee to the vendors on streets while purchasing something which he did not need at all. He was way too generous, and this habit irritated his family as well as his friends. His helping mentality made Naresh the butt of ridicule among his colleagues. Back at office, they would not miss a single opportunity to pull his legs. But Naresh was unperturbed and continued doing what he liked. He was not in the least, bothered about what others thought about his nature and brushed aside all sorts of mockery. Once Naresh and his colleagues were on a visit to Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary. They were at the boat jetty waiting for their turn for boating. A boat carrying school children was approaching the jetty. The children were hollering and waving at the people on shore. Suddenly a group of children moved to one side, and the boat capsized, without giving a warning to the boatman. Naresh did not waste a second. He jumped into the chill waters and swam towards the boat. His friends were shocked and could not believe their eyes. Two foreigners also joined Naresh and together, they could bring all the children and their teachers back to safety. Ridicule gave way to reward and recognition, and Naresh became the hero of the day.

Answer:

A. his helping mentality

Read Explanation:

The sentence should be:

"What made Naresh the butt of ridicule among his friends? His helping mentality."

In this context, "the butt of ridicule" means that Naresh was the target of mockery or laughter. While "helping mentality" generally refers to being generous or willing to assist others, in this case, it seems that his eagerness to help may have made him an easy target for his friends' ridicule, possibly because they took advantage of his kindness or mocked his behavior.
