Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to function at rest.
The conditions required for BMR are:
1. The person should be awake and resting
2. The person should be in a neutral thermal environment (not too hot or cold)
3. The person should not have eaten for at least 12 hours (to ensure they are in a "post-absorptive" state)
4. The person should be in a relaxed, non-stressed state
The condition that is NOT required for BMR is: -
Physical activity
BMR is measured when the person is at rest, so physical activity is not a requirement. In fact, physical activity would actually increase the person's energy expenditure, which is not what BMR measures.
