Sattriya dance was introduced in the 15th century AD by the Vaishnava saint Sankaradeva.
It draws inspiration from earlier dance traditions such as Devadasi and Ojapali, while also reflecting influences from Assamese folk dances like Bihu and those of the Bodo community.
The dance is structured around hastamudras (hand gestures), intricate footwork, and aharyas (costumes and ornaments).
