The Mahabharata was translated into Persian by Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak, who was a prominent minister in the court of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. The Persian translation of the Mahabharata is known as "Razmnama" in Persian. The Akbar period was popularly known as 'the renaissance of Persian literature. During the Akbar rule, all the translation work had been done. Mahabharata, the Ramayana, the Atharva -Veda, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Panchatantra were translated from Sanskrit to the Persian language.
