Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (commonly known as Sir MV) was born on September 15, 1861, and his birthday is celebrated as Engineers Day throughout India. He was a notable Indian civil engineer, statesman, and the 19th Diwan (Prime Minister) of Mysore from 1912 to 1918.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya made significant contributions to engineering in India, particularly in the areas of irrigation systems, flood disaster management, and dam construction. He designed the Block System of irrigation, automatic weir water floodgates, and was the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, in 1955 for his contributions to the nation. Engineers Day is celebrated on September 15th every year to honor his memory and recognize the contributions of engineers to society and national development.
