The Sardar Sarovar Dam is a concrete gravity dam built on the Narmada River near the town of Kevadiya, in Narmada District, in the Indian state of Gujarat.
The Narmada River, also known as the Rewa, is the fifth-longest river in India and the longest west-flowing river in the country.
Originating from the Amarkantak Plateau in Madhya Pradesh, it flows westward for 1,312 kilometers through Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat before emptying into the Arabian Sea via the Gulf of Khambhat.
It is considered the "Lifeline of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat" for its significant contribution to these states.
