The NCSE conducts research to strengthen its understanding of best practices for students with special educational needs. The NCSE's research program involves:
Commissioning or conducting peer-reviewed research studies
Identifying lessons for policy or practice from the evidence

Psychological assessments
In some cases, a psychological assessment is required for a child with a specific speech and language disorder. The child must also have a non-verbal or performance ability that is within or above the average range.
