Objective: To provide housing assistance to the rural poor in India.
Launch Year: 1985 as a sub-scheme of the Jawahar Rozgar Yojana. It was later made an independent scheme in 1996.
Funding: Primarily funded by the central government, with states contributing a smaller share.
Beneficiaries: Targeted Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), freed bonded labourers, and families of those who died in communal riots, natural calamities, and police/military personnel.
