This passive construction shifts the focus from the subject (you) to the object (the work), making the work the focus of the sentence. It also maintains the modal verb "should" to express obligation or necessity. The auxiliary verb "be" is used to form the passive voice, followed by the past participle "finished" to indicate the action of completing the work.

The work should finish before the sun goes down.

You should have finished the work before the sun goes down.

The work should be finished before the sun goes down.

The work should have been finished before the sun goes down.
